Simsbury State Senator Pushes Back Against Storm Price Gouging

State Sen. Kevin Witkos (R) spoke about the need to protect residents from "unscrupulous folks" after severe weather events.

Simsbury's State Senator Kevin Witkos (R) expressed strong support for a bill aiming to protect residents from price gouging after severe weather events, the Associated Press reports.

Witkos spoke in the AP article about the choas that follows monumental blizzards and severe hurricanes, creating a ripe scenario for unsavory businesses to take advantage of residents.

“People panic about protecting their property when something like this happens,” he said in the AP report. “It’s those few unscrupulous folks that take advantage of people in the emergency mode, if you will.”

The state Senate passed the bill in early May and has received support from a majority of state senators for three years, according to the AP. Connecticut's House of Representatives has to act on the bill by June 5, the AP said.
