Tootin' Hills School Polling Station Selected for State Audit
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill announced the 10 percent of polling places that will be hand-counted to ensure voting integrity on Monday.
The Tootin' Hills School has been selected by Secretary of the State Denise Merrill's office as one of the 10 percent of polling stations — 73 precincts — statewide that will be audited to ensure voting accuracy.
The town clerks in the communities selected will pick three races to audit. The audits will take place no sooner than Nov. 20 and must be completed by Dec. 13.
The polling stations chosen for auditing are selected each year by the Secretary of the State using a lottery-style random drawing.
“Auditing election results isn’t just a good idea, it’s absolutely essential in order to guarantee the integrity of our elections,” Merrill said. “We don’t just take the machines’ word for it. So we will have every ballot cast in a full 10 percent of all our precincts hand counted and matched against the machine totals.
"Connecticut has the toughest elections audit law in the country and I am confident at the end of this year’s audit the numbers will once again match.”
