Town Activates Storm Information Hotline

The town of Simsbury has activated the Town Storm Information Hotline for residents without power who have access to a telephone. Regular updates will be provided as the town recovers from Hurricane Sandy.

Storm Status

Hurricane Sandy is over for the town of Simsbury and no further damage from the storm is expected.

Road Status

Route 10 is closed in town center as CL&P works to install two telephone poles by the main fire station. All other roads are open and safe.

Power Outage Status

As of 8 a.m., CL&P has reported that 12 percent of their Simsbury customers are still without power, down from 41 percent on Tuesday. Power has been restored to many business along Hopmeadow Street. Town officials are continuing to press CL&P for details on when residents can expect their power to be restored.

Shelter Status

Simsbury has not opened a mass shelter in response to Hurricane Sandy. Residents with special circumstances preventing them from sheltering at home who need assistance from the town should contact Simsbury Social Services at 860-658-3283. Most area grocery stores and some gas stations are now open. Residents needing food, water and a place to charge cell phones can find these services at Simsbury Town Hall.

School Status

Simsbury Public Schools are closed today. The Board of Education is determining whether schools will be opened tomorrow, Thursday November 1, 2012. More information on school openings will be available later today.

Halloween

The town of Simsbury is not cancelling Halloween. The police department is urging residents to use caution as some areas of town still may not have power by this evening. There may also be unexpected hazards such as sticks and debris in yards, sidewalks, and driveways. Supervision, reflective costumes and flashlights are just some suggestions to keep children safe.
