From the Office of the First Selectman:
The Town of Simsbury, in conjunction
with the Simsbury chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be hosting a
Veterans Open House from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Simsbury Public Library. Members
of the active military, veterans and family members are invited to meet with
representatives of the Simsbury VFW as well as representatives from the Town of
Simsbury and Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty’s office.
“There are many veterans out there, including many currently returning from combat abroad, who have questions about how to access certain benefits or what organizations they can join,” said Sean Kimball, Simsbury’s recently appointed Veterans’ Services Contact. “We hope that this open house and others in the future will allow vets to connect with each other and with the people and organizations that can help them get the services they need.”
The new role of Veterans’ Service Contact was created by the Connecticut General Assembly through the passage of Public Act 13-42 which requires each town to designate an individual that can serve as a single “point of contact” for veterans looking to access benefits and services. Sean Kimball also serves as the Deputy Director of Administrative Services for the Town of Simsbury.
Attendees of the Veterans Open House will also be able to learn more about joining the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The event will be held in the Simsbury Library’s Program Room II. Refreshments will be served.
