Town of Simsbury Winter Storm Update: Blizzard Conditions, Power Outages Possible

Steady snow expected to continue overnight. Residents are urged to stay off the roads.

Submitted by the Town of Simsbury at 6:30 p.m.

The Town of Simsbury’s Public Works crews are out in full force clearing roads as snow continues to fall.

“With winds picking up and the likelihood of ice and snow drifts, it is critical that residents stay off the roads tonight,” said First Selectman Mary Glassman.

Glassman and town emergency officials were briefed by Governor Dannel Malloy in a 5:30 p.m. conference call and will get a statewide update at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.  The Town will update residents following the conference call or earlier if any new information becomes available.

Town officials continue to monitor the storm and expect steady snow to continue until daybreak with the strongest winds tonight into early Saturday morning causing drifting now. Blizzard warnings remain in effect throughout the night with the potential for power outages. A statewide driving ban was issued by the Governor at 4:00 p.m. today and remains in effect until further notice.

Residents needing non-emergency assistance should call Simsbury Police at 860-658-3100.  Residents losing power should immediately contact Connecticut Light & Power at 800-286-2000.

The article says it provides information about "various ways" the community can helpRead More teachers. However, it provides information only about the Staples discount program. The link takes you to a Staples website, not to a list of ways communities are helping. In addition, statistics given are national, not relating to Simsbury, or even Connecticut. This seems like a canned article designed to promote Staples. Was it written and submitted by that retailer?
