Vote for Blumenthal

By Patty Howland

I have just returned from delivering campaign materials to a Simsbury neighborhood in support of Jeff Blumenthal. This was my first experience at a “lit drop” as it is known to those who do this on a regular basis. Besides dodging the dobermans (my first house) and one very large kitty, it was an enlightening experience. Here is what I heard:

  • “I’ve just finished reading all the position statements in the local paper and Jeff’s was the most impressive. He has my vote.”
  • “I met him outside Fitzgerald’s last weekend and I liked what he had to say.”
  • “We’ve known Jeff for a long time and he is extraordinary. Thanks for making sure others know about him too.”

I went to college with Jeff at the University of Hartford, where Jeff was active in student government — a leader even then. He sits on a University board with me and is enthusiastically involved in every topic we discuss. When Jeff called to say he was running for selectman and asked for help with the campaign, I signed on — even though I am a registered Republican.

I have seen Jeff actively involved in the campaign every step of the way. When we gathered to make phone calls at his home, he served us homemade chili. I have heard him call residents who had concerns, and then talk with them at length and build a rapport. I have seen him outside of Fitzgerald’s in the freezing cold, making personal connections. His smiling face and sincere demeanor are contagious. Besides all that, he is knowledgeable, has been active on several town boards, and has ideas on how to maintain Simsbury’s character while controlling costs.

Jeff would bring all this passion to the office of selectman because he truly cares for the town and its residents. As one resident said, he is extraordinary.

Please cast your vote for Jeff on March 1 at Henry James School, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
