Voter Turnout Higher Than Expected in Tuesday's Primary

Polls are open until 8 p.m.

Approximately 12 percent of Simsbury's 9,695 registered Republican and Democratic voters have made their ways to the polls for today's primaries showing a higher turnout than expected.

At noon, 1,162 votes had been cast at Simsbury's four polling locations. Votes have not been broken down by party.

Here are the mid-day totals by location:

  • Henry James- 363
  • Latimer Lane- 366
  • Tootin' Hills- 251
  • Tariffville- 182

Simsbury's registrars of voters are feeling optimistic about a strong start to the day and expect to see more activity as voters leave work tonight.

"It's a little bit better than we expected," Republican Registrar Marge Diachenko said.

Elections officials originally expected to see approximately 16 percent of registered voters visit the polls today.

"I think it's going to be little bit higher, maybe in the 20's," Diachenko said.

The polls are open until 8 p.m. today and Simsbury Patch will post the results tonight.
