Board Names Representative to Agriscience Center Committee

Timothy Goodwin will serve as Simsbury representative for Choice program

Timothy Goodwin, Executive Director for the Community Farm of Simsbury, was named by the Simsbury Board of Education to be the town's representative on the agricultural consulting committee for the Suffield Regional Agriscience Center Monday night.

Simsbury Public Schools is affiliated with the Suffield Regional Agriscience Center through the Choice program. The program requires that affiliate schools select a representative to the agriscience program board, according to Superintendent of Schools Diane Ullman.

"Given the fact that we have such a close relationship with the Community Farm and that Tim [Goodwin] has been a great supporter of the Simsbury schools, we felt that Tim would be the perfect person to represent us on that committee," Ullman said.

The district has teamed up with Goodwin and the Community Farm of Simsbury to develop three educational programs that include classroom instruction and visits to the farm. Currently, the district has a first grade program, a fourth grade program, and a family consumer science program at Henry James.

"It's really been a great partnership and Tim has been just an extraordinary person to work with," Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Erin Murray said.
