Central School Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Aerial Photo

Photo mirrors one take earlier by another parent.

Central Elementary School is celebrating is 100th anniversary with the help of students, teachers and staff and even the fire department.

On June 18, all of Central's teachers and staff and 380 students joined together to form the words "Central 100" for a photograph taken from above, according to a release from the school.

The aerial photo was taken by Jay Reynolds, a parent and Central School graduate, from atop a ladder truck brought to Central by the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department on Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Retired firefighter and district employee Ron Kasaulatis, volunteer firefighter and summer district employee Matt Alicona, and Simsbury Fire Chief Jim Baldis accompanied the firetruck to Central School. Also present was Central School sixth grade teacher Steve Petrella, who also happens to be a volunteer firefighter with the department.

“On this same day, a photo was taken at the same time by another parent, Curt Henderson. The pilot was a Simsbury High School graduate, Peter Fahan... We are all making memories during this celebratory year, and we are making history with each special event!" said Central School Principal Edie Balkun.

Both aerial photographs will be mounted and framed for the 100th Birthday celebrations at Central School.
