January 2013 is the kickoff for a celebration of a milestone for a community that has truly loved their neighborhood school for a hundred years. Although some prominent alumni have already been recruited for the effort, including Board of Education member Tara Donohue Willerup, the committee is hoping for the help of other alumni or just folks who want to pitch in to make this occasion unforgettable.

Plans are in the works for an aerial photo of the school, a student video and song, a Central “Teachers Hall of Fame,” and a Homecoming Gala. Central School students are excited to document Central School’s history with class projects, such as timelines and decorations that illustrate “a century of Central” since 1913. These are just a few of the special events that will begin in January 2013 and continue through the end of the school year. Although the students are expected to give their all to the effort, said Principal Edie Balkun, “We can’t underscore enough the importance of Central School alumni and volunteers to the success of this celebration. We are hoping that once they hear about our plans, they won’t be shy about contacting us—and fast!”
