Cut-A-Thon to Give Back-To-School Haircuts to Autistic Kids and Siblings

Jocelyn's Run is sponsoring the Cut-A-Thon at Roosters in Simsbury.

A special event organized by Jocelyn's Run will give free haircuts to local autistic children and their siblings on August 19.

The Cut-A-Thon will occupy Roosters Men's Grooming Center in Simsbury for a full day later this month when families can bring autistic children and their siblings for 40 minutes of worry-free care.

"Hopefully we can service 40-50 kids and help make the lives of their families a little bit easier," Aaron Cramer said. Cramer, who's 7-year-old daughter, Abbie, is autistic, is treasurer for Jocelyn's Run and also the owner of Roosters in Simsbury.

"A couple of the [Jocelyn's Run] members approached me about doing a giving event," Cramer said.

Jocelyn's Run is a local non-profit organization that provides support to autistic children and their families.

Cramer, who also works for XL Insurance in Hartford, offered up his Simsbury business for a day to help local families get back-to-school haircuts in a supportive environment.

"A lot of times, with a family like mine, it's hard to get out," Cramer said.

Children will get haircuts from licensed hairdressers and barbers who have volunteered their time. Cramer said more volunteers are always welcome.

The event has only booked 10 appointments but Cramer hopes to book 45.

The Cut-A-Thon will be held August 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To make an appointment call Roosters at 860-217-1621.
