The first day of school often brings a mix of emotions for students who are returning for another year and those who are stepping in the classroom for the first time. But students aren't the only ones preparing for the new school year.
This year, Simsbury Public Schools have 26 new faculty members and a new superintendent of schools joining the ranks.
Kelley Hodgson is one of 22 new teachers who will be greeting students as they enter the classroom today. Hodgson, a veteran teacher who is returning to the classroom after spending five years at home with her own kids, said the students aren't the only ones with the first-day jitters.
"I will probably be getting limited sleep the night before," Hodgson said on Tuesday.
Hodgson has come full circle in the Simsbury school district having spent her elementary years at Squadron Line School where she'll be teaching 20 first grade students this year.
"I'm so excited," Hodgson said. "The people here have made me feel so welcome."
Hodgson previously taught both first and third grade students in New Jersey before moving back to her hometown.
District staff will also be joined by a new superintendent, Matthew Curtis, who was once the principal at . Curtis is taking over for former superintendent Diane Ullman who retired last spring.
