About Central School
Central School is a mid-sized community-based school. It is the oldest elementary school in Simsbury, built in 1913 and enrolled in the National Register of Historic Places. The original building had five classrooms, a health room and a cafeteria. The desks were made of iron and steel and were bolted to the floor. In 1949 a brick addition (the second addition) was built. Central is also Simsbury’s newest elementary school. Renovation and new construction in 1997 added 10 new classrooms, a Media Center, administrative offices, dining room and new art, music and band rooms. Our theme at Central School, announced at the school’s entrance is “Learning the Ropes for the Voyage of Life”—reflecting the school’s belief in meeting the needs of the whole child. Our LARTNEC Programs foster a sense of community focusing on themes such as Welcoming, Thankfulness, Heroes, Environmental Awareness and Farewells.
