Simsbury Board of Education Renews Superintendent's contract

The Simsbury Board of Education has renewed the contract of Superintendent Matthew T. Curtis for July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2016.

"The feedback was unanimously positive," school board member Mike Goman said about the superintendent's evaluation during a recent meeting.

For the year July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014, the superintendent's salary will be $183,600, representing a 2 percent increase, said Goman, the board's personnel and negotiations chair.

The percentage was the same given to other top administrators and an evaluation/adjustment process will be done again next spring, he added.

Board chair Lydia Tedone also praised Curtis.

"It's a lot to take on a new district," she said.

Curtis was hired in 2012, beginning on Aug. 1, after serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Glastonbury.

He was familiar with Simsbury, having previously served as principal of Squadron Line Elementary School and as Director of Human Resources for the local district.
