Squadron Line Elementary School Students Sing for Seniors

Simsbury seniors got an early dose of holiday spirit when Squadron Line students paid a visit.

On Thursday, December 13, 2012, the Squadron Line Holiday Chorus, directed by music educator Miriam Schreiber, traveled around Simsbury to sing for senior citizens at three locations.

Thirty-eight sixth grade students signed up to participate.  Rehearsals began the first week of November. Students prepared 15 songs, many in two-part harmony.  The set also included a sing-a-long.

On performance day, the students traveled with Ms. Schreiber and accompanist Joyce Wagner to the Senior Center at Eno Memorial Hall, where coordinator Kathleen Marschall created a breakfast for everyone.  Ms. Marschall kindly extended the breakfast invitation to all parents and grandparents of the Holiday Chorus members.

A small but loving audience, including director Tony Uanino, enjoyed the performance in the cozy Belden Forest Court community room.  McLean director Kathy Cookson had many residents gathered in the rotunda upon the chorus’s arrival, and the students greatly enjoyed singing for a large, enthusiastic crowd.
