Seventeen students from Simsbury performed in the national children’s choirs for the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE), which held its National Music Education Conference in Minneapolis, MN, March 16-19. Three national choirs are an integral part of this conference. A nationally recognized conductor will conduct each choir. The children’s choir is made up of students in grades 4 and 5; the youth choir has students with unchanged voices in grades 6, 7, and 8; and the concert choir is composed of students in grades 9–12 and boys in 8th grade with changed voices.

Through submission of an audition CD, the strongest singers and musicians were selected to perform in the choirs. Simsbury music teachers have sponsored students for the OAKE National Choir since 1997. Vocal teachers for students listed below are Sue Mollica, Kiera Brown, Kathryn Zahara, and Dr. Stuart Younse.
