All Politics is Local: Make Your Vote COUNT!

The 2011 Simsbury Municipal Election was a testament to Simsbury voters. While many families struggled with no power, the community banded together, the Town provided top-notch emergency services, and 36% of voters made it to the polls. Even if Simsbury had been storm-free, the number still would have been only about 50%. That pales in comparison to the 85% plus that show up for national elections. That's a shame, because local elections impact local issues.
Simsbury DTC Chair Amy McLean Salls is today's guest blogger. Of course we'd like Democrats to come out on November 5th, but everyone should do his or her civic duty and VOTE!
Now here's Amy:

I am writing to urge Simsbury voters to make their vote count this Election Day, Tuesday, November 5th!

Why do local elections matter?  This is where important decisions are made that affect your children’s classroom, how your roads are plowed and how many police patrol your neighborhood.Interesting fact: Even with all of the important decisions that directly affect the residents of Simsbury, during the last local election, only 36 percent of Simsbury voters turned out to the polls. Let’s change that this year. Urge your neighbors and friends get out to vote on Election Day on November 5th.

This year, voters will have an exciting group of volunteers for whom to vote! We are proud to support First Selectman Mary Glassman for re-election and her team, Deputy First Selectman Lisa Heavner, Selectman Shannon Knall and newcomer Jay DeVivo, a member of the Economic Development Commission.

Running this year for the Board of Finance are Jeff Tindall and former State Rep. Linda Schofield. Mary’s team is the fiscal conservative team for Simsbury and has delivered record low budgets.Mary’s team has brought national recognition to our Town. Working together, Simsbury has a top Bond rating, the state’s first Bike Friendly Community and was named as Money Magazine’s top Best Places to live three times in four years!

We are proud of the wonderful slate of volunteers, your friends and neighbors, who have stepped up to put their name on the ballot to work hard for you on Simsbury’s Board of Education, Planning Commission, Zoning Commission and other land use boards. You will find the names of your friends, your neighbors and your coaches on Row B!

Remember Tuesday November 5th Election Day in Simsbury.  See you at the polls!
Sincerely,
Amy McLean Salls Simsbury Democratic Town Committee Chair
