Emil Dahlquist for Simsbury Zoning Commission

Today's guest bloggers are John and Judy Schaefer, who write in support of Emil Dahlquist's campaign for Simsbury Zoning Comission. John and Judy are longtime Simsbury residents who have championed efforts to preserve Simsbury's environment. We encourage you to join the Schaefers in voting for Emil on November 5. Simsbury is lucky to have this Hometown Hero and land use expert on the ballot and ready to serve!

Emil Dahlquist is very knowledgeable about land use issues.  He has chaired Simsbury’s Design Review Board and Building Code Board of Appeals for the past 20 years.  He assisted in writing two chapters of the “2007 Plan of Conservation and Development”.  He is also the primary author of the highly acclaimed Design Review Board’s “Guidelines for Community Design”.  Emil has experience on both sides of the land use process.  As a licensed architect for 33 years, he has experience complying with land use regulations and as a member of Simsbury’s commissions, he was involved in applying the regulations during the review of proposed projects.

While residing in Simsbury for 35 years, he has served the community.  Emil has worked hard to maintain the image of award winning Simsbury.  As chairman of the Main Street Partnership Design Committee for the past 6 years, he has been instrumental in the renovation of Eno Memorial Hall.  His participation in the Simsbury Center Design Charrette, the Simsbury Route 10 Corridor Study, and the Weatogue Village District Study contributed greatly to encouraging future development that will be compatible with maintaining Simsbury’s current quality of life.  Emil was a member of the PDD and PAD subcommittees promoting mixed-use development and is a current member of The Hartford Property Study committee.  For six years, Emil served as a head baseball, basketball, and soccer coach for Simsbury youth organizations.  He was honored as a Simsbury Home Town Hero.  Through his record of service, Emil has shown that he is dedicated to maintaining Simsbury as a special place to live and work.
