Who'd have thought? Linda Schofield's return to public service

Today's guest blogger is Linda Schofield, candidate for Board of Finance. Linda is a three-term State Representative with a fiscally conservative voting record and a reputation for independent thinking.  Linda always voted in Simsbury's best interests, not with the party line.  If you haven't met Linda yet... give her a call or send her an email.  She’s very accessible and responsive to constituents. Here's Linda:

Retirement from State service and from my career in health care has given me the time to serve my community in new (volunteer) capacities, as well as to do more gardening! I was sure I was done with elected office when I finished my last term as State Representative, but I realized that the best way I can help to make Simsbury a place where I can stay for the rest of my life is to help keep our town's financial house in order. And the best place to do that is on the Board of Finance.

I am on the board of McLean’s, the Performing Arts center, and the ABC program.  In addition, I volunteer with the library, Talcott Mountain Music Festival, and Simsbury Garden Club.  I enjoyed organizing the ArtWalk in 2012 and the litter clean-ups for the 6 years while I was State Representative.  Now I am organizing a Triathlon for next summer, to bring attention to Simsbury’s fabulous outdoor assets and hopefully to stimulate some economic activity for our local businesses.

I care deeply about the future of this town, and I look forward to the opportunity to volunteer my time on the Board of Finance.  Frugality and careful investment have been the hallmarks of my personal philosophy as well as in my role as your former State Representative.  I will carry that philosophy forward into my service to the town.
