MAY 29: Simsbury and Brien McMahon met this afternoon in the first round of the class L state lacrosse tournament. The Trojans and Senators traded goals for the first three quarters and when the whistle blew to start the fourth, the game was tied 5-5. After that, McMahon would only score one more time, while Simsbury went on a tear, tallying six more goals. Final Score: Simsbury 11, McMahon 6.
Simsbury's defense pulled out all the stops in the win. Senior captain Cormack Mulshine was successful in shutting down the Senators' star attackman. Senior Mitch Glasgow fended off multiple McMahon players in a fast break and found attackman Aaron Riccio for an assist. Another defenseman, senior Mike Ferri, took the ball down the field for an unassisted goal.
Other goals were scored by Aaron Riccio (4), James Foster (2), Nolan Thompson, David Sizer, John Ryan, and Hunter Black.
The 16-3 Trojans' next game is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, at Simsbury High School. They will face the Blue Knights of Southington at 3:00PM. The entire tournament bracket can be found on www.ciacsports.com.
