MAY 16: Senior Night for the Simsbury Boys Lacrosse team drew a large crowd to Holden Field Wednesday and the game against the Cheshire Rams did not disappoint. After a ceremony recognizing the 13 Trojan seniors, fans were treated to a back-and-forth, physical battle, which found Cheshire leading 6-5 at halftime.
The Rams struck first in the second half, extending their lead to 7-5. Shortly after, a collision between Trojan midfielder Hunter Black and a Cheshire player earned Black a questionable illegal cross-check penalty. The Simsbury bench responded with renewed energy and determination and went on to score six unanswered goals, ending the game with an 11-7 victory.
Scorers for Simsbury were Nick Sharkey (3), Aaron Riccio (2), John Ryan (2), Mason Burr, Nolan Thompson, James Foster, and Jimmy Sexton. Goalie Tim Maher made eight saves and reliever Andrew Calabro kept Cheshire scoreless at the end of the game, stopping two shots on goal.
Next up for the 12-2 Trojans is an away contest at Glastonbury High School Friday night. Game time is 5:30PM. After some early losses this season, Glastonbury has rallied to achieve a 10-5 record. Simsbury and Glastonbury are both undefeated in CCC West games and are battling for the top spot in the division.
