Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters 19th Annual Invitational Golf Classic

Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, Connecticut’s premier youth mentoring organization, will host its 19th Annual Invitational Golf Classic at the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford. A committee has been formed and planning for the much-anticipated all day event is now well underway. Chairing the event is Thomas V. Daily, a partner in the Reid & Riege law firm. Daily, a resident of Simsbury, is a member of Nutmeg’s Board of Directors.

“We’ve been getting the word out to as many area businesses, organizations, and individuals as possible,” said Daily. “The response has been uniformly enthusiastic, and positive. Almost everybody who’s played with us in the past is planning to play again this year. And we’ve also generated a healthy amount of interest with golfers who haven’t played in our tournament before. People have heard what a fantastic day of golf and enjoyment this always is. Many are particularly eager to play the legendary Hartford Golf Club. Most important, they understand that all money raised helps support a tremendously community-beneficial charity.”

Players have their option of participating in 2 different events at the 19th Annual Nutmeg Invitational. There’s the always popular 4-person scramble. And, for more competitive golfers, there’s a 2-person challenge cup in a play-your-own-ball format, played from the club’s back tees. Attendees can also look forward to lunch, on-course contests, a cocktail reception, dinner, a raffle, 2 auctions and awards. Making a return engagement as the  evening's program emcee will be golfer and NBC Connecticut news anchor, Brad Drazen.

“This has been a challenging year for us with regard to fund-raising,” said Bill Carew of Simsbury, tournament committee member and, Nutmeg’s Chairman of the Board. “The money we hope to generate at our June 7 golf tournament will move a whole lot of deserving Connecticut kids off our waiting list and into productive matches with caring, inspirational adult mentors.”

“Many golfers consider this to be the ultimate win-win opportunity,” said Darlene Roberts, Nutmeg’s Director of Fund Development. “They get to play on one of the finest courses in New England. And they’re able to support an extremely worthwhile local charity all at the same time.”
