Simsbury Parks and Recreation Summer Programs

The Simsbury Culture, Parks & Recreation

Department is offering a variety of spring and summer programs. Detailed information on all programs as well as registration can be found on the website www.simsburyrec.com.

There are eight weeks of swimming lessons
offered at both Simsbury Farms and Memorial Park pools.  A one week session of swimming lessons costs
$50, with classes from parent and child, swim readiness, and levels one through six.  Diving lessons are also provided.  A full listing of session dates and class times can be found on the Simsbury Farms website.  If a family also has a season pool pass, swimming lessons are $40. 

    Multi
Sports Camp offers 15 different sports from around the world, taught by the US
Sports Institute.  All activities are
taught in an atmosphere of good sportsmanship, teamwork and fun.  Sports include baseball, basketball, cricket,
flag football, handball, netball, rugby, soccer, volleyball, and more.  There is a half day camp for ages 5-13 from 9:00am-12:30pm for $174 or 1:00-4:00pm for $134.  The full day camp for ages 6-13 runs from 9:00am-4:00pm for $204.  This camp is held at Henry James Middle School the weeks of July 9 and
July 23.

   Sports Squirts, run by the US Sports
Institute, is a great way to introduce children ages 3-5 to a variety of sports
such as soccer, T-ball, basketball and hockey. 
Activities are designed to evoke a child’s imagination where they can
Find Nemo, send Shrek into a spin, or capture Jellyfish with Sponge Bob Square
Pants.  There are morning and afternoon
sessions for ages 3-5, during the weeks of July 9, July 16, and July 23, with
prices ranging from $89 to $109. 

   Howie Dickenman, Central Connecticut State University basketball coach will hold
his Basketball School for boys and girls from
July 30-August 3 or August 6-10 from 9:00-10:00am.  Campers will receive a T-shirt.  This camp is held at Henry James Middle School and costs $100.

   Wick Sticks Field Hockey Camp exposes
beginners to field hockey and advances the skills of experienced players.  Participants will be placed in groups by age
and skill.  The camp is staffed by State
Champion Coaches Sandy Wickman Mason and Jody Bascetta, former USA U-21 coach
Cheryl Stone, as well as elite college and high school players.  Camp for girls in grades 3-8 is July 16-20 from
5:30-7:30pm and costs $130.  Camp for girls in grade 9-12 is July 23-27
from 6:00-7:30pm and costs $80.  Participants should bring a field hockey
stick, mouthguard and shinguards.  There
will be a limited amount of sticks to borrow. 

 

   Beginner Lacrosse Camp, taught by the US
Sports Institute is ideal for entry level players with no previous
experience.  Players ages 6-14 will be
grouped by age, playing ability, and experience level.  No previous experience is necessary.  Lacrosse Camp is held July 16-20 from 5:00-6:30pm at Henry James Middle School and costs $109. 

   Bill Decker, Trinity College Head Baseball
Coach, and his staff will offer Baseball Hitting Camp June 18-20 or July
30-August 1 from 9:00-10:30am for ages 7-12 for $150.  Defensive Skills and Pitching June 18-20 or
July 30-August 1 from 10:45am-12:30pm for ages 7-12 for $125.  All baseball camps are held at Memorial
Park. 

   Ray Reid Soccer School will be offering a Young
Stars Skills Camp from June 25-29 at Curtiss Park soccer fields from 9:00am-noon for ages 5-14.  This soccer camp for boys and girls will
focus on developing and improving each player’s skills and creativity with the
ball.    A first-class coaching staff and
a certified trainer will expose players to dribbling, passing, receiving,
shooting and small-sided games.  All
players will receive a camp T-shirt, a cinch sak, soccer ball
and Young Stars certificate.  Cost is $160. 

   Fastpitch Nation Softball Camp will give an
opportunity for girls ages 8-14 to learn skills for infield, outfield, throwing,
hitting and base running.  Emphasis will
be on fundamentals and drills used in college and applied for girls of all
ages.  Players will need cleats and a
glove.  If rain is forecasted the camp
will move indoors to Fastpitch Nation in Bloomfield.  This camp from July 23-25 is held 9:00am to noon for $150.
