Hope for a Bounce Back Season on the Hardwood

Simsbury sports digest for December 6, 2011.

When your season ends with a 5-15 record, it is safe to say things did not go according to plan. But when you lose your last nine games, well, change is probably on the way for next season. Such is the case for the Simsbury girls basketball team. Jessica Baker's first year as Trojan head coach, is her first year as a head coach at the high school level. She does have extensive assistant coaching experience including a stint at Connecticut College. Baker will get her freshman head coaching campaign off the ground tonight when Simsbury plays host to South Windsor. The Trojans are led by senior point guard Amanda Beland who led the team in assists last year and sophomore forward Allie Davis who led the team in rebounds as a freshman. Simsbury has three other seniors who will play prominent roles on the team, so there is reason to hope for a better 2011-2012. Tip off time tonight is 7 p.m.

Elsewhere on the schedule the Simsbury wrestlers host Canton/East Hartford in a scrimmage at 3 p.m.

Girls ice hockey is at Hamden today for a scrimmage. They'll drop the puck at 4:15 p.m. While the boys host Cathedral for a scrimmage at 5:40 p.m. at the International Skating Center.
