An Avon rowing coach has opened a private indoor rowing facility in town at the former Farmington Valley Diagnostic Center space behind Luke's Doughnuts.

The grand opening for Power 10 Indoor Rowing Center is on Saturday and there will be an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Eric Rosow, who founded the business with Renee Jones, wrote in an email to Patch that he chose to rent at the location "in order to make the center easily accessible to interested student athletes from both the middle school and the high school."

Rosow coaches the Avon High School girls varsity crew team and Jones is also a rowing coach.

"The center has been established to serve the Farmington Valley community and will be open to all people (ages 12 and up) who have an interest in learning how to row or improving their fitness, technique and racing capabilities," a press release from the rowing center said.

The indoor rowing center will offer programs "for adults of all ages, experience and fitness levels," he said.

Here are some of the programs:
  • Middle School Learn to Row
  • Adult Learn to Row
  • High-School Training & Technique
  • Adult Fitness Programs
  • Clinics and “Virtual Racing Regattas”
  • One-on-One Coaching and Video Analysis
  • Nutritional Counseling

Plans for the center include about 20 indoor rowing machines (Concept2 ergometers) and a "simulated 4-person rowing shell" called the Swingulator. The machines will have "visualization and analysis software" so that athletes can have "virtual races" with friends, club members and people around the world, as well as training sessions.

More information is available on the website at www.row-indoors.com or by contacting the rowing center at info@row-indoors.com or 844-ROW-INDOORS (844-769-4636).
