Football Team Hopes to Bounce Back While Rowers Travel to Boston

Simsbury Sports Digest for 10/21/2011

After last Friday's trouncing at the hands of Windsor, Simsbury head football coach Jeff Osborne said he wanted his players to "just forget" about that game. What better way to forget than to play another game? The Trojans (2-3) will do just that Saturday afternoon as they visit Hall (4-1) for a 2 p.m. kick-off. Like their opponent a week ago this team's name is the Warriors. And also like last week's opponent, Hall likes to throw the ball. They are averaging just under 200 yards per game. It probably sounds scary to a Simsbury team that is probably still reeling from the 45-0 shutout last Friday.

But a closer look reveals an important difference. These Warriors have given up more than 20 points 3 different times, including to South Windsor, a team the Trojans held to just 7 points. So while Hall has a formidable offense, Simsbury should be able to move the ball against them.

Meanwhile, nearly 9,000 rowers will descend upon Boston this weekend for biggest rowing event in the country. Among them will be the Simsbury boys and girls crew team who will compete in the Head of the Charles. Named for the river which separates Boston and Cambridge, this two-day regatta annually draws some 300,000 spectators. The competitive field includes both individual and team rowers from colleges, high schools, and clubs from nearly every state and various countries.
