SHS Soccer Kicks Off Its 2013 Season With A Win

Simsbury High School Men’s Soccer Program kicked off the 2013 with its opener at Bristol Central High School with a win.

The boys in blue knew they had their hands full when the Rams scored the first goal of the game within the first minute of play. After that, Simsbury settled down and worked hard to possess the ball and control the game. Both teams played a physical game and Bristol defense stymied a Simsbury offense led by Co-Captains Keegan Rice and Sean Gaffney in the forward positions.

After halftime, Simsbury came alive and pressured the ball effectively. The defense anchored by Co-Captain Mason Burr, Jack Patrina, Patrick Shea, Sam Kyzivat and Jack Patrina protected Simsbury Goalie Peter Sconzo and held back the Rams scoring efforts.

Nearly halfway through the second half, Co-Captain Jack Sullivan fought through the Bristol defenders and slammed a shot into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Sullivan’s goal put new life into the Simsbury players and they stepped up the intensity of their play.

Bristol tied to battle back, but another Simsbury goal by junior Connor Roche who came up from his defense position and popped the winning goal in the net with 13:31 remaining. The Rams tried to step up their offensive efforts, but Simsbury shut them down and came away with the win.
