Simsbury Sports Digest for April 29

A bounce-back win on the diamond and another strong performance on the court.

Needing a win in the worst way, having lost 4 of their last 5 games, the baseball team dominated Hall, shutting them out 8-0 in West Hartford on Wednesday. Matt Quintana allowed just 2 hits for the Trojans (5-4) who picked up their first league win of the year. Josh Gowdy provided all the offense needed with two home runs. Dylan Sullivan also homered for Simsbury, who visits New Britain today at 4 p.m.

Elsewhere on the diamond today, the softball team looks for its first win of the season as they play host to New Britain. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Wednesday was also a good day for the girls tennis team as they defeated South Windsor in impressive fashion 5-2 at home. Natalie St. Denis and Emily Amarell won in straight sets. Amarell shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0. The Trojans (2-1) swept the doubles, with Leah Anderson and Sarah Mattison battling back after losing the first set 4-6, taking the final two, 6-0 and 6-4. Audrey Goulart and Jenna Verrengia, along with the team of Danielle Weingartner and Nicole Baker won in straight sets. Simsbury travels to Tolland today for a 3:45 p.m. match.

The boys lacrosse team stretched its winning streak to 4 games with a 3-1 win over Conard in West Hartford Wednesday. The Trojans (5-3) also visit Tolland today at 4:30 p.m. and then they host New Milford tomorrow at noon.

The girls travel to Windsor for a 4 p.m. face-off today.
