Simsbury Sports Digest for Oct. 4, 2011

Two streaks for Simsbury. One good, one not so much.

Make it three in a row for the Simsbury field hockey team. The Trojans' (5-1) weekend was sandwiched between 3-1 wins. Friday Simsbury traveled to Storrs to take down E.O. Smith. Monday they tamed the Bobcats of South Windsor by that same score. The Trojans will hope to stretch it to four straight when they travel to Enfield to battle Fermi, a 3:45 p.m. face-off on Thursday.

The Simsbury football team lost it's second consecutive game on Friday, 22-14 at Manchester. After losing their first and second string quarterbacks to injury in the first two games of the season, Simsbury opted for a no-quarterback offense with the center snapping the ball directly to the running backs. It was effective early on as the Trojans built a 14-7 half-time lead on the strength of two Blair Zentek touchdown runs, but the Indians took control in the second half. Elsewhere, the boys soccer team fell to Southington 4-1 on Friday. The Trojans (3-2) will travel to Farmington for a 7 p.m. kick-off tonight. The girls meanwhile are home for Farmington at 6 p.m.
