Simsbury Sports Digest for Sept. 20, 2011
Girls volleyball is off to a fast start, while Simsbury Farms prepares for a big 4 days of golf.
So far so good for the girls' volleyball team. Through their first 2 matches, the Trojans (2-0) have not given up a single game. Friday Emily Amarell had 15 Service points including 4 aces along with 5 digs as Simsbury took all 3 games from the Indians in Newington. Lauren McCann chipped in with 9 assists. The Simsbury girls also won their season opener 3 games to none over Conard Tuesday on the strength of Laura Yablecki's 7 kills and 3 aces. Julie Dennen had 8 assists. The Trojans will host New Britain at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Meanwhile the field hockey team blanked Maloney 4-0 to win it's season opener in Meriden on Friday. The Trojan girls will travel to Haddam-Killingworth for a 3:45 p.m. face-off on Wednesday.
In other sports the football team is off to a 1-0 start after doubling up Newington 14-7 on Friday at Simsbury High School. For the full game story, click on the link below.

Finally, the golf course will be very busy September 24-27 as the town links play host to 2 big events. First is the Simsbury Amateur on Saturday and Sunday. This is an annual tournament open to players with a current 2011 USGA Handicap Index. It is a 36 hole medal play event with a Championship Flight and an A Flight. Senior Championships will also be played in each Flight. More than $1,000 in pro shop credits will be divided between the medalists and runners-up. Then on Monday and Tuesday the Farms will play host to the CSGA Senior Amateur Championship.
