Simsbury Sports Digest for Friday Feb. 11

Championship weekend on tap for wrestling and track while boys basketball and girls hockey tune up for their post-season.

Simsbury High School Sports Schedule for Friday and Saturday

Friday

The boys basketball team (8-8) looks to stretch it's win streak to 4 tonight at they host New Britain at 7:00pm. The Trojans qualified for the state tournament with their win Tuesday against Hall.

The girls (5-13) are at New Britain, also a 7:00pm tip-off time.

The boys hockey team will try for back to back wins for the 2nd time this season as they play host to Hand. The Trojans (4-7-2) made it 2 wins in their last 3 games when they dominated Fermi 8-2 Wednesday.

Saturday

The post-season starts in earnest this weekend for 2 Simsbury teams.

The boys and girls track teams are at the New Haven Athletic Center for the Class LL state championships. Merrit Gasho is one of the favorites in the 600 meter dash, while Julia Levesque is a favorite in the hurdles. The event begins at 4:30pm

The wrestling team (18-10) will compete in the CCC championships at Farmington which start at 10:00am. 

Both hockey teams are in action Saturday. The girls (13-3-2) will try to bounce back from just their 3rd loss of the season as they welcome in Ridgefield for a 6:00pm face-off. The Trojans suffered a 3-2 setback to Conard/Hall on Wednesday.

The boys will be at Farmington, their 2nd game in as many nights. They'll drop the puck at 5:30pm.

Wednesday Results

The wrestling team wrapped up the regular season in style, with a hard fought 31-30 victory over Farmington. Josh Gowdy and Brian Poggio both pinned their opponents while Nate Beerman, Connor Ciment, Ben Durst, Brad Helmkamp, Stephon King and Ben Todd won by decision.
