Simsbury Chamber To Recognize Four At Annual Meeting

The Simsbury Chamber of Commerce will recognize one company and three individuals at its Annual Meeting, Awards Dinner and Dance to be held on May 15, 2014 at Hop Meadow Country Club. 

The "2014 Business Leader of the Year Award"  will be presented to Landworks Development, LLC for their project on West Street which includes the Mill Commons apartments, condominiums and rehabilitation of an historic restaurant and commercial property.  The project not only provided employment opportunities for a number of trades and services but will bring in over $630,000 in tax revenue to Simsbury over the next two year.  Partners Ron Janeczko and Chris Nelson will be receiving the award on behalf of Landworks Development, LLC.

Rich Sawitzke, retired Simsbury Town Engineer, will receive the chamber's "2014 Distinguished Service Award" for over 33 years of service to the town.  He has facilitated the development of new subdivisions, the Greenway, the Hartford property, renovations at all of the major school buildings as well as played a major role in the development of the Sismbury Performing Arts Center.

The Simsbury Chamber looks to both the Board of Selectmen and Board of Education to provide recommendations for the Public Servant of the Year and Educator of the Year.  This year, Paul Henault will receive the chamber's "2014 Public Servant of the Year Award" for 18 years as a member of the Board of Finance, 15 years as chairman.

Rich Keegan, physical education teacher at Squadron Line School, is the recipient of the chamber's "2014 Educator of the Year" Award.  Rich Keegan was recently awarded the Michael B. Gessford Excellence in Experiential Education Award by the Connecticut Experiential Education Association. In addition to receiving this award, Rich is the author of Global Games for Diversity Education, Teaching 21st Century Diversity Skills.
