Hartford Stage and TGS Team Up for Audition Workshops Starting April 27

Do you want to work on your audition skills? Or, have you always dreamed of being on stage but don't know where to start? If so, then check out "Auditioning for the Stage," a two-part workshop presented by the Theatre Guild of Simsbury and Hartford Stage. The workshop will be held from 7-9 p.m. on two successive Sundays, April 27 and May 4 at Boy Scout Hall, 695 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070 (Rt  10 across from Fitzgerald's Supermarket), near intersection of Rt. 10 and West Street.

In Session 1 (April 27), students will learn the basics of what to expect and how to prepare for an audition. Character types and casting choices will be discussed, and students will practice cold-reading and monologue performance techniques. Students should bring a piece of text to this first session to use in various exercises. Ideally, this will be a suitable monologue or piece of text from a play of their choosing that they will workshop in class and on their own before Session 2.

Session 2 (May 4) continues the process as students present their monologues and receive feedback. Additionally, musical auditions will be discussed—including song selection and preparation. Finally, a brief overview of professionalism and the business of acting will conclude the workshop.
