In 2012, a successful job search requires 4 things:
• a clear goal,
• the proper tools,
• an effective strategy,
• and focused effort.
A clear goal: you must target positions for which you have 90% of the qualifications. Do not waste your time applying for jobs for which you are not qualified.
The proper tools: a resume that highlights the value you offer an employer and is formatted properly for Applicant Tracking Systems; an optimized LinkedIn profile; and a strong “Compelling Conversation Opener” or “Elevator Pitch”.
An effective strategy: the most successful job search strategy today combines face-to-face and online networking with companies who are actually hiring.
Focused effort: finding a job is a full-time job. You must devote 6-8 hours a day to finding a job, and keep track of your efforts and progress.
