Gigantic Book Sale To Be Held This Weekend at SHS

All proceeds will benefit the SImsbury Public Library.

Calling all bibliophiles!

Simsbury Library is hosting its annual, giant used-book sale this weekend and this year's offerings will not disappoint the most discerning shopper.

For more than three decades, the library has hosted this sale of books, and now DVDs and CDs, with the hopes of filling in the gap in funding for its diverse programming and services.

"The Simsbury Public Library used book sale has been ongoing for more than 30 years," said co-organizer Charmaine Glew. "All the proceeds go to the library and are used for enhancements to the library."  Items such as books, computers, online catalogs, special programs and even a piano have been purchased with the funds raised at this yearly event.

"We have a cadre of dedicated volunteers who sort the books for the sale throughout the summer and additional volunteers who work at the sale," said Glew. "All books are screened for quality and sorted into easy-to-find categories."

Volunteers include Simsbury High School student teams who lend a hand to move the books from the library's collection location to the high school. Boy Scouts assist with set up in the gymnasium.

The sale this year will be held on on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prices range from 50 cents for children's books to $4 for new hardcover fiction.

"We also have a 'Special Selections' area for rare editions and other unusual material," added Glew.

On Sunday there will be an "all day bag sale." The volunteers provide a bag, and customers are allowed to fill it up for just $8.

Simsbury High School is located at 34 Farms Village Road and entrance to this event is FREE.
