Student Bake Sale to Benefit Wounded Soldiers

Students from Henry James and Squadron Line schools will hold the bake sale during the Memorial Day Parade.

For the second year, students from and schools are teaming up to raise money to help the nation's wounded soldiers.

On Monday, May 28, students will hold their second bake sale for the Wounded Warrior Project during the Simsbury Memorial Day Parade.

The fundraiser was coordinated by Haley Latorre, a sixth grade student at Squadron Line Elementary School with the help of her mother Lorie Latorre. Latorre learned about the Wounded Warrior Project through her father, formerly a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard who now serves in the Michigan Air National Guard.

"I wanted to do something for the veterans and their service, so decided to organize this bake sale," Latorre said in a recent email.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization that aims to raise public awareness, empower injured service members, and to provide direct services to those members.

Last year's bake sale raised over $1,200 for the project, according to Latorre.

The students will hold the bake sale in the parking lot of Martoccio Music during the Simsbury Memorial Day Parade on May 28 from 11 a.m. until the parade ends.
