Back to School, FOCUS Center for Autism Fundraiser and A Taste in Simsbury

Here are just a few things to do for the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, 2013.

Yes it's Monday morning but the good news is there are some fun events in Simsbury this week. Here are just a few. 

1. Don't look now, but it's back to school time Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Simsbury! The summer seemed to melt way too quickly. Check out the full 2013-14 school calendar. And be sure to see our Back to School section for more tips and tricks to survive the season.

2. If you see this early enough Monday morning, and if you hustle, you can still catch the Simsbury Junior Woman's Club "Breakfast in the Park" from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Simsbury Farms Playground.

3. The FOCUS Center for Autism is holding a fundraiser at the Red Stone Pub in Simsbury featuring special guest Shannon Knall Tuesday, Aug. 27, from  6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Many fabulous raffle prizes will be up for grabs!

4. Ladies and gentlemen, start your taste buds for the fifth annual "A Taste in Simsbury" on Thursday, Aug. 29, at The Riverview at 10 Winslow Place. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and many of the best restaurants in the Greater Hartford will be taking part.

5. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, there will be an ice cream social at Ben & Jerry's in West Hartford to benefit the Emanuel Synagogue Scholarship Fund and the USY Social Action/Tikkun Olam (SATO) Fund.
