Few days ago, we were in a northbound lane and stopped for a school bus making a stop going…Read More southbound. We were the first car in line and were struck extremely hard by a teenage girl going probably 30 to 40 mph. NO skid marks.
I asked the cop to please ask her if she was using her phone at the time. He said he would ask and that she would probably deny it. Whether or not she was using her phone, I have no idea.
Cop said it doesn't matter anyway. They don't have time or resources to request phone records or do anything about finding out if she was using her phone. She did get a ticket for whatever her driving infraction was.
To answer Mary Harriou's question: I do not use my phone to text or talk while driving. I refuse to do it because then I lose the right complain when others do so.

If this is such a "critical issue that must be addressed", then why aren't the police…Read More enforcing the laws on a daily basis? During my daily commute, it seems like 10-20% of the drivers I see are yakking on the phone. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel to have a cop stationed on one of the corners identifying the terminally chatty. But no, for some reason, the Simsbury police department seems to feel a need to issue a press release to inform the public that they are actually doing their job.
