Theatre Guild of Simsbury closes its 40th season with Pride and Prejudice

This past weekend, a beloved classic was brought to life on the stage of beautiful Eno Hall. Theatre Guild of Simsbury delighted Jane Austen fans with a new adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice", by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan. This show was produced by CT Repertory Theatre three years ago, where director Tracy Weed saw it and immediately fell in love. "Hanreddy and Sullivan have written a wonderful adaptation that stays true to the original work," said Weed. "They did a tremendous job of paring down a lengthy show while still keeping it entertaining and touching. Fans of Austen won't be disappointed." The cast has been in rehearsal since February, learning both lines and dances that are from Austen's era, taught by dance historian Susan de Guardiola. "I jumped at the chance to choreograph," said de Guardiola. "This is one of my very favorite stories, and I have been hoping for just such an opportunity!" Beautifully costumed by Darlene Davis of Simsbury, Austen fans and theater lovers alike have two more opportunities to see the show. "Pride and Prejudice" runs Saturday, April 20th, 7:30 pm, and Sunday, April 21 at 2 pm. Tickets may be purchased online at www.theatreguildsimsbury.org, or they will be available at the door.
